Action
Artelac Nighttime Gel is an ideal product for providing strong long-lasting relief for dry eyes caused by chronic tear dysfunction.
It is formulated to provide support to all three layers of the tear film, including the outer-most lipid layer. It covers the tear film with a high viscosity gel which is designed to remain on the surface of the eye and retain moisture. It lubricates eyes to calm and provide long lasting relief of the symptoms of chronic tear dysfunction such as painful, burning, tired, gritty, blurring eyes, and, even teary eyes. Artelac Nighttime Gel offers three-layer protection for people with suspected evaporative dry eye or those that need extra protection.
As a gel, most people prefer to use the product in the evening before bed, or upon waking in the morning.
Artelac Nighttime Gel supports all three layers of the tear film with sterile water to moisturise, carbomer to bind the moisture on the eye's surface, and triglyceride lipids to support the lipid layer of the tear film that seals in moisture.
Artelac Nighttime Gel is a high viscosity gel that provides long lasting protection of the eye's surface.
Artelac Nighttime Gel is easy to use, well tolerated, and safe.
Artelac Nighttime Gel will cause initial blurring upon installation before consecutive blinking shears away the gel which is why many people chose to use this strong product at night.
What role does the tear film play: The tear film is comprised of three layers on the surface of the eye which provide essential nutrients to the surface of the eye, form a protective lubricating barrier between the eyelid and cornea, and ensure healthy function and clear vision.
The natural tear film is spread over the surface of the eye with every blink in order to provide nutrients, protect it from drying out, and to assist with healing of superficial injuries of the cornea and prevent further injury or damage.
The innermost layer - the mucin layer - helps bind moisture and tears to the eye.
The middle and largest layer - the aqueous layer - is a watery solution of nutrients and ions that help moisturise and protect the eye from infections.
The outer-most layer - the lipid layer - is a dense, oily layer that seals in moisture on the eye, allows for the free flow of the eyelid over the eye, and evens out the surface of the eye to provide sharper vision. It is a delicate symbiotic balance that ensures ocular surface health and comfort.
When the tear film balance is compromised by chronic tear dysfunction, insufficient or poor quality tears can create an imbalance in tear film layers and trigger a cascade of events (including eye-surface inflammation, redness) and symptoms (including irritation, burning, fatigue) that increasingly make the condition worse. Not only can it become more painful but it can damage the surface of the eye.
Chronic tear dysfunction is a complex disease for which there are no proper cures. However for most cases the patient can treat the symptoms of dry eye to become more comfortable as well as fortify/supplement the tears to help break the cascade of dry eye events and safeguard against inflammation and ocular damage.
How can Artelac Nighttime Gel help the eyes: Artelac Nighttime Gel with carbomer, sterile water, and triglyceride lipids supports each layer of the tear film in a ratio similar to natural tears to lubricate the eye and help support the tear film. The added viscosity and surface-binding properties of carbomer helps ensure the solution is retained on the eye.
And, what else can the patient do for their dry, tired eyes: Make short pauses from time to time if the patient works in front of a PC.
Remember to blink regularly.
Provide the room or office with natural air, or consider a humidifier.
Drink enough water.
Protect the eyes from the wind when they go outside.
Consider adjusting the diet to include more Omega 3 and Vitamin B complex.
Indications/Uses
Artelac Nighttime Gel is best suited for use to calm and relieve persistent dry eye symptoms due to chronic tear deficiency. Chronic tear deficiency can be caused by a number of factors including tear gland inflammation and dysfunction, eyelid and sensory deficiencies, and/or poor quality of tears.
When one or many of these factors compromise the tears, a tear film imbalance results and a subsequent cascade of unpleasant signs and symptoms can result including: eye-surface inflammation, redness, the sensation of gritty eyes, dryness, light sensitivity, tired eyes, burning, painful and, even excessive tearing that, if not treated, could lead to further inflammation and corneal damage. Also, certain drugs and procedures (such as the contraceptive pill, antihistamines, beta-blockers, antispasmodics, diuretics; and LASIK and cataract surgery), certain diseases and preservatives in some eye drops can play an important role in the development of ocular dryness and corneal damage.
Due to the complex nature of tear dysfunction, there are limited treatments; however, Artelac Nighttime Gel is designed to supplement the three layers of the tear film including the very important outer-lipid layer for maximum relief and moisture retention on the surface of the eye. It has a calm and soothing effect on the eyes while at the same time it locks in moisture to provide long term relief.
The product was designed for people suspected of having evaporative tear dysfunction, but given the properties of the product, people with more severe and persistent dry eye can also benefit from using this product in addition to their original dry eye product for extra protection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
How often should the patient use Artelac Nighttime Gel: Treatment for dry eye conditions requires an individual regimen according to the severity and intensity of the symptoms. Instill one drop of Artelac Nighttime Gel into the eye 15 min before going to bed; and, if the patient prefers a gel product, 3 to 5 drops can be used daily.
If the patient uses Artelac Nighttime Gel during the day, wait until the vision clears before using machinery or driving.
This is how the patient should use Artelac Nighttime Gel: 1. Remove the protective cap from the tip of the bottle before each use. Make sure that the tip of the bottle does not touch the fingers.
2. Lean the head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid down slightly with a finger of the free hand and hold the tube vertically above the eye with the nozzle pointing downwards. Then gently squeeze the bottle to apply one drop.
Avoid contact of the tip of the bottle with the eye or the fingers to prevent any possible contamination of the solution.
3. Replace the cap on the bottle after each use.
Close the eye afterwards and slowly move it back and forth and then blink the eyes in order to optimally spread the drop on the surface of the eye.
Special Precautions
Important information about using Artelac Nighttime Gel: In rare cases this product can cause hypersensitive reactions such as local allergic reactions. Treatment should be discontinued in such cases.
If the patient is using different eye preparations, wait approximately 15 minutes before using the second drops.
If the patient wears contact lenses, remove them before applying Artelac Nighttime Gel and wait approximately 15 minutes after application before putting them in.
